GEDI Lab
General Electrodynamics International LLC, also known as GEDI Lab, is a small startup located in Long Lake, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. GEDI Lab was founded by Dr. Yuri Dreizin to develop, build and test innovative rail launchers called electromagnetic brushguns.

An electromagnetic brushgun is essentially a combination of multi-layer laminated busworks extending along the launch path, and built-up rails assembled of densely arranged electrical brushes mechanically supported by and electrically connected to the busworks. Another notable feature of brushguns is split barrel that can be readily opened to provide easy access to the entire bore. More detailed information can be found in our recent patent publication US8701539.

In 2013 GEDI Lab has built the first subscale brushgun prototype and tested it at a few kJ of muzzle energy to validate its principle of operation. Currently GEDI Lab works on a larger internally funded R&D project that includes building a 9 m long brushgun barrel, an ultracapacitor based power source and a pulse forming network. Plans are to test this system at up to 1 MJ of muzzle energy in 2015.
